IRAQI TROOPS CONTAIN VIOLENCE IN HILLAH
A combined force of Iraqi Police (IP) and Iraqi Army (IA) stopped an organized attack in Hillah on March 25th. The attack was initiated by a para-military force, which gathered in southern Hillah. They were armed with AK-47 assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). As they attacked Coalition and Iraqi Security Forces with RPGs and small arms fire, Iraqi Army and Iraqi Police forces counterattacked. The IP and IA secured major intersections and engaged the militants over the course of several hours. The militants were forced to retreat into a mosque. "The ISF reacted quickly and effectively to maintain stability in al Hillah and to restore law and order," said Lt. Col. Daryl McDowell. "They did a great job, quickly re-establishing security for the residents."
