AQI CACHES, STAGING SITE DESTROYED
Coalition Forces destroyed a known al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) weapons cache and staging site in Arab Jabour, about five kilometers southeast of Baghdad on May 12th. The area was known to have been used by AQI for the manufacture and emplacement of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the stashing of weapons caches, training, and the launching of sniper attacks against Coalition Force convoys. The area itself was rigged with pressure-plate IEDs and tree-borne IEDs, emplaced in palm trees. Two U.S. Air Force F-16s dropped eight GBU-38 500 pound bombs on the area, destroying the munitions.
