My Tour's Up

For those few of you who may still visit from time to time, I'm sure you've noticed that I haven't been posting lately. I'll be honest. Frankly, it's no fun anymore. When Obama took over the White House, I tried to keep going, but I just can't bring myself to do it...

When I started this blog, George W. Bush was fighting a Global War On Terror. The mainstream media paid little attention to his successes, but never missed an opportunity to point out his failures. The MSM painted the GWOT as a grotesque portrait of abject failure while rarely mentioning any of the good things that were happening. In Afghanistan and Iraq schools and hospitals were repaired, electricity and water services were upgraded, health care was provided, emergency assistance programs were conducted, and locals were taking responsibility for their own governance, etc.

The only news the MSM seemed to report was about U.S. military fatalities, accidental civilian deaths at the hands of coalition forces, the cost of the war, death tolls from roadside bombs, suicide attacks, military personnel who disagreed with the administration, and anything that besmirched the integrity of the U.S. military. The MSM repeatedly bemoaned our entrance into Iraq, and our failure to find WMDs. They relentlessly accused the Bush administration of lying to the American people and manipulating intelligence data to justify the Iraq invasion. They constantly mocked GWB about his failure to capture or kill Osama bin Laden. They said Iraq was a distraction from the "real" war on terrorism in Afghanistan. They even released classified information about successful top-secret, anti-terror programs, despite the urging of the Bush administration against doing so -- acts which in my opinion, were treasonable offenses.

The left-wing media bias was clearly obvious, and I was bitterly angry. I wanted to do something to show my support for GWB and for America's finest -- our heroes in the U.S. military who volunteered to put their lives at risk on the front lines. Thus, I started this blog: "Victory Against Terror". It's goal was to highlight the good news in the GWOT that the mainstream media was purposely ignoring for partisan political purposes. Just as they ignored the good news, I ignored the bad news. I tried to stay away from politics in this blog, unless it was incidental to the story. I also tried to stay away from "proposed" anti-terror programs, calls for action, commentary and analysis, etc. My sole purpose was to highlight 'victories' and the good news of accomplishments actually achieved.

When Barack Obama won the election, I was deflated. Obama was one of the GWOT's detractors. He showed little respect for the military before the election, as he does to this day. He campaigned on a promise to unilaterally disarm America. He accused the U.S. military of indiscriminately "air raiding villages and killing civilians". He insulted the Medal Of Honor recipients by failing to attend their inaugural ball -- the first President to do so since Dwight Eisenhower. He refuses to use the word "terrorism". He changed the name "Global War on Terror" to "Overseas Contingency Operations". He changed the name "act of terror" to "man-caused disaster". He has directed the focus of Homeland Security away from potential terror threats to the threat of "right-wing extremists" like veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and everyday conservatives like myself.

Obama has cut our missile defense system at a time when North Korea is threatening to launch missiles at Hawaii. He ordered the closing of Gitmo without a plan for how to handle the unrepentant terrorists there. He wants to try foreign enemy combatants in U.S. courts, affording them Constitutional privileges reserved for American citizens. He failed to denounce Russia when they invaded the country of Georgia until well after most other countries had already done so. He failed to denounce the Iranian government for electoral fraud in the recent elections there. He failed to denounce Iran for their bloody crackdown on thousands of legitimate freedom-seeking protesters until well after most other countries had already done so. And he is ready and willing to meet with America's enemies without preconditions, including Iran -- whose support of Shi'ite militias in Iraq has killed or wounded hundreds of Americans.

How can I in good conscience continue to promote our victories in the war on terror, when our President won't even acknowledge that we are at war? How can I promote our victories for which such a vile man would only take undeserved credit? How can I promote our victories when, by the definition of the DHS, a run-of-the-mill conservative like myself is defined as a "right-wing extremist"? Yes, I could do it for the troops. Yes, I could do it for the brave men and women who continue to put their lives on the line every day. But, like I said above, it's just no fun any more. So, I'm packin' it in. My tour's up.

To the brave men and women of the armed forces and our various security agencies... I salute you. Thank you for doing your jobs every day whether at home or abroad. Whether you participate in our "Overseas Contingency Operations" or you guard our cities, transportation networks, ports, or infrastructure... I salute you. Thank you for protecting us from "man-caused disasters" and may God be with you in the performance of your duties. God Bless the United States of America.

I completely agree and understand. Struggling with the same dilemna, it seems to be a waste of time when there are many great blogs out there doing earth moving work.

I think our time has come, Hawkeye, to retire the colors and have a happy life outside of all the political ugliness that has become the debate. I am about 95% resolved to do th esame thing. I've been toying with this for a year now. It seems like entertaining liberals isn't a good enough reason to keep a blog going.

My hat is off to you and the good work you've done over the years. Many blessings...

I'm sad to see this end,and I'm sad our Country seems to be headed in such a horrible direction.
I've seen some very bad Presidents with petty ,silly agendas, others with dangerous plans, but I have never seen anyone as petty and vengeful, selfish, and bitter ,and either grossly ignorant, or following an unholy plan to destroy us,as 0bama is. And I grew up while Roosevelt was President.
Please ,don't close out the Blog ,we may need you even more, later.
i have really enjoyed this one ,as some weeks ,it was the only good news I read about the WoT.
Thank you for your wonderful effort.

I've been (mostly) staying away from political matters on my blog for some time now; to paraphrase Amy, there are a lot of other bloggers out there doing a far better job in that particular arena than I ever did, anyway.

However, I consider your blog(s) to be amongst the aforementioned ones doing that far better job. To echo Barb, I would respectfully suggest leaving this one open...perhaps the mood will strike you to post some more here in the future.

Amy,
I will probably continue to post at View From Above... God-willing. However, I've been thinking about another project which might make even that obsolete. Don't know yet.

I've always enjoyed your blog and it would be a pity to see it go. But I know what you mean about the trolls. It's nice to know that someone is reading, but they're such an ignorant lot, aren't they? They seem to completely fulfill the prophecy...

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of stress. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, fierce, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. --2Timothy 3:1-4

I've been a frequent visitor to your blog... Amy Proctor, although not a frequent commenter. You have great skills that I wish I had. You've said great things that I wish I had said. God Bless you in whatever decision you make.

Thanks for your kind words.

Best regards...

Barb,
I'm sad too. I feel like I'm letting down the troops at a time when they are not getting much support from Washington or elsewhere. But as I've said, I blame Obama and the liberals, most notably the MSM.

I agree with your analysis that our country is headed in the wrong direction. My only hope is that we can undo the mess that Obama is creating.

I will leave the blog open, and may come back to it someday. If nothing else, it is a testament to the good work of counter-terrorism over these last few years.

Thank you for your kind words.

Best regards...

Camo,
As I mentioned to Barb, I will leave the blog open and may come back to it someday.

I appreciate your suggestion that I was doing a good job, but a part-time blog can never match the quality or consistency of the full-timers. If I had anything to offer here, it was primarily enthusiasm. But now that is gone, so there's not much left to offer.

Thanks for your kind words. You've been a constant reader and a faithful supporter, and for that I am truly grateful.

Best regards...

Hawkeye, you're going to be missed big time. I completely understand how demoralizing it is to see the veritable worship of Obama by the national socialist media, Obamabots and brain-dead "moderates" who go sucked into his political mendacity. Never has this nation been so badly served by someone so unqualified to be POTUS - yet liberal socialists continue to worship before their messiah, not even holding him accountable for the lies he has told them! Incredible!

It's also particularly vexing to contemplate the possibility that for the first time in American history - a nation of free market capitalism and economic liberty - a majority of Amerikans embrace a form of socialism/collectivism/communism which will eventually prove to be detrimental to our lives, liberties and pursuits of happiness of property. This is a particularly disgusting and egregious development in a constitutional republic which originally cherished individualism and true freedom. And what's even more troubling is the same Amerikans continue to lie to themselves about their own socialist sentiments, but then closet liberals always have lied to themselves to the point where they have to change their political identity to that of being a "progressive"! These people can't even live with the unintended consequences of their own moronic ideology!

But don't worry, dear friend, as George Washington opined, “No country upon Earth ever had it more in its power to attain these blessings…Much to be regretted indeed would it be, were to neglect the means and depart from the road which Providence has pointed us to, so plainly; I cannot believe it will ever come to pass. The Great Governor of the Universe has led us too long and too far…to forsake us in the midst of it…We may now and then, get bewildered; but I hope and trust that there is good sense and virtue enough left to recover the right path ... I am sure that never was a people, who had more reason to acknowledge a Divine interposition in their affairs, than those of the United States; and I should be pained to believe that they have forgotten that agency, which was so often manifested during our Revolution, or that they failed to consider the omnipotence of that God who is alone able to protect them.”

A day is coming and in the battle cry of our revolutionary forbearers, "Sic Sempter Tyrannis." And may it always be so for the present liberal socialist regime.

Hank,
I couldn't agree more. Obama could not even qualify to obtain top-secret clearance if he was trying to get an agency job. Yet, he's the C-in-C. Yikes! Frankly, he doesn't even meet the Constitutional requirements to be President. What has happened to this country? What has happened to our Constitution?

Thanks for your kind words. I continue, in spirit, to be... Semper Fidelis.

Best regards...

Hawkeye, it makes me so sad that so many of us are feeling your same sentiments. However, I am realizing more and more that the sadness isn't over just this one president, but over the fact that our country is being disciplined. As 12-steppers know, it takes the bottom to look up. And as they also know, those who love the one who must hit bottom, are also affected by that plunge. We can be serene amid the chaos, though, and know that we will be stronger for it. It is so painful to see someone we love crash and burn, even if that 'someone' is our country, but out of the ashes, we will arise stronger and wiser. Keep the faith and know that when the president says, as he did last night, that his plans are going to come to pass because it is "in the stars" that he hasn't got a clue that "in the stars" is God, who is oh so much more in control than the president could ever be!!!

Hawkeye® said...

Whiteacres,
I hadn't heard that. He actually said it's "in the stars"? I am reminded of numerous verses in the Bible where angels are referred to as "stars". The name Lucifer means: "Day Star". Perhaps Obama is referring to Lucifer and the wicked angels? BTW, Lucifer's name was changed by God to "Satan" or "the Adversary". Interesting.

I just found your blog when I was looking for something about CAIR. Though I understand your feelings,
I'm sorry that you had to stop your blog (even temporarily) ... we need strong voices like yours in our crazy world.

You have never failed to post at my blog, althoough I have often visited here without posting.

As you can tell, some time has elapased since my last visit. While your lack of enthusiasm is certainly understandable, given the current administration's lack of commitment to anything other than himself, it is a good sign that the blog is still open.

Others of us (ahem) have been remiss in keeping the flame burning at our own blogs. Perhaps we shall all rise again at the appointed time. Keep on with View from Above until you return to VAT. Perhaps VAO?

Rick,
No problem. I understand how things are. We only have so much time for web-surfing. We can't go everywhere and read everything we'd like to. It's just impossible.

My inbox gets packed with e-mails that contain links to great articles or cut-and-paste versions of the articles themselves. Sometimes it's tough just getting through the e-mail, let alone web surfing.

And there are loads of great blogs and web sites I'd love to visit every day, but it ain't happenin'. Can't do it. "C'est la vie".

Don't kid yourself. Keeping a blog active is a tough job. It takes work and dedication. Sometimes the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. We get busy, tired, deflated, bored, etc. And if your readership is pretty low, then it can get disheartening as well.

As you suggest, I will carry on at View From Above.

(:D) Best regards...
